Clubs and Organizations
Students are encouraged to get pursue their interests outside the classroom. A number of clubs, student groups, and organizations exist for those with a passion for journalism and PR.
A student chapter of Public Relations Society of America, the world’s largest and foremost organization of public relations professionals. PRSSA provides professional development, sets standards of excellence, and upholds principles of ethics for its members. The society also advocates for greater understanding and adoption of public relations services and acts as one of the industry’s leading voices on the important business and professional issues of our time.
True Blue Communication is a student firm with real-life business clients. The firm allows students to have hands-on experience working with a client for either internship credit or pay. Students mainly focus on the public relations and marketing aspects of business.
USU has a chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, one of the most respected professional organizations in the country. The mission of the organization is to promote excellence in the field and ensure freedom of speech, and of the press, continues.
The Statesman is the independent student newspaper of Utah State University, published two times each week (Tue-Thura) of the academic school year. The Statesman is a student activity, open to students of all majors and class rank. Aggie BluePrint –
is a student-initiated and directed online news magazine of breaking news and feature stories affecting USU students. Also appearing in a paper-and-ink edition once annually
is the weekly student newscast of the Department of Journalism & Communication, covering news about USU, Cache Valley and northern Utah both online and on local cable TV. Also includes the regular TV news magazine show, Cache Rendezvous.
The Communicators Guild
is a student-initiated group dedicated to engaging JCOM students in the life and direction of the department, to connect current students with alumni through its Facebook pages for USU JCOM Dept. Alumni and Friends and USU JCOM Student Mentors.
is JCOM’s award-winning student online news website, the first online news product in the state of Utah. Fed with breaking news stories and features by students in JCOM classes and student freelancers, the Hard News Café has been named the best independent student news website in the Intermountain West by the Society of Professional Journalists nearly every year since its creation in 1995.
